I’ve seen early trials of these systems, and they can be a bit intimidating if you aren't prepared. The goal is to speed things up, but on those first few months? Expect some "tech hiccups." My best advice? Give yourself extra time between connections! ⏳

🇪🇺 2. ETIAS: Your New Must-Have Travel Authorization

Right on the heels of the biometric scans is the ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System). 📝 This is basically the European version of the U.S. ESTA. If you’re a fan of Airbnbs or short-term rentals, listen up! Italy has tightened the screws on these properties to ensure safety and tax compliance. 🗝️

Every legal rental in Italy must now display a CIN (National Identification Code). If the listing doesn't have one, it might not be legal! Also, hosts are now legally required to verify your identity either in person or via a secure video link. 🤳 Gone are the days of just grabbing a key from a lockbox and never seeing a soul. It’s a bit more "bureaucratic," but it actually makes your stay safer. I personally vet the villas and apartments I recommend to my clients to ensure they meet all these new 2026 standards.
